Welcome to Helen Marie Graves's Page

Helen Graves

Sometimes I get sick of the pink ribbon, but I know money for research and support services is vital to extending the lives of women diagnosed with breast cancer at an early age! Within the breast cancer community, younger women are underserved and often struggle to have their voices heard! Younger women are more likely to be diagnosed with more aggressive forms of breast cancer and face different crises when deciding on treatments (e.g., preserving fertility is a different ballgame at 30 and 60). If you agree research and support is vital for younger breast cancer patients like me, please donate!

My personal cancer story: I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in May 2008. I had just entered graduate school and spent my summer in chemotherapy instead of the lab. After successfully completing 8 rounds of chemo, 33 rounds of radiation, and having both breasts removed, I thought my cancer journey was over. Little did I realize the cancer had spread to my brain. A plum-size brain tumor was found in 2015. Considered too dangerous to leave, I underwent prompt brain surgery to have the tumor removed. Since that time, other metastatic tumors have been found in my brain and lymph nodes, and I am currently being treated with hormonal and chemotherapy.

This year I have made an exciting and challenging commitment to participate in YSC Tour de Pink, a three-day, 200 mile bike ride for breast cancer. I know I can do it with your help encouraging me and supporting me with a donation.

Your donation will go to support Young Survival Coalition and ensure that no young woman faces breast cancer alone. YSC is the premier organization providing supportive services and education resources for young women affected by breast cancer.

YSC Tour de Pink is much more than just a bike ride, it’s a chance to honor survivors, raise awareness and support important programs for young women affected by breast cancer. I hope I can count on you to help me reach my fundraising goal!

How will your donation help?

$25 could fund YSC materials at three healthcare providers’ offices.
$100 could provide a Newly Diagnosed Navigator to six women when they need it most.
$250 could allow us to train four survivors to serve as a peer supporters.
$500 could fund a Young Empowered Survivor (YES) educational program.
$1,200 could pay for two young women to travel to the YSC Summit, an annual conference for young women affected by breast cancer and their co-survivors.

Any amount helps!

As I train for this amazing ride I plan to update this page frequently along with my social media accounts so that all of my supporters can see my progress.

Thank you in advance for your support. I truly appreciate your generosity.
