Welcome to Martha Tuff's Page

Martha Tuff

Now that the randomness of New England "spring" weather seems to be behind us, along with the fear of snow, sleet, and ice, I am celebrating the summer and the recent heat wave! And with that ... back to biking! I am starting to train - and campaign - for the now annual ride for breast cancer with the Young Survivor’s Coalition. Once again, I am honored to be a member of Team Ivory Ella. I have hit up a great deal of you in the past, and I am so grateful for all of your support, both financial and emotional. Thank you. But I am at it again and looking for your help!

For those of you who may not know, my initial motivation to do this ride was for my mom, who battled breast cancer 7 years ago. I am happy to report she is doing fantastically and as a matter of fact, was able to join me on the ride last year where we successfully crossed the finish line together! It was especially meaningful as she had trained and was ready to ride with me the year before, but suffered a rough biking accident weeks prior to the ride and could only be there to cheer me on that first year. Beyond my mom and my mother-in-law, cancer has touched my family in other ways: Quinn's godmother Melissa was taken by breast cancer when she was just 30 and I myself beat thyroid cancer 10 years ago.

After being introduced to YSC purely by chance, I have come to feel passionately about the organization. While out on one of my favorite rides in Jamestown, Rhode Island, I found myself battling some blonde dynamo up a hill. We eventually started talking and we deduced she was on mile 50 and I was on mile 5 and she was still close to kicking my ass. That was my now-teammate Lizzie who kindly let my mom and me join her team. I've now fallen in love with the YSC organization, the people, and the ride; we are looking forward to another great year.

I feel so lucky to be able to do this for, and with, my mother (who is pushing 73 at this point and is a force to be reckoned with) but also for all the young survivors who battle breast cancer every day. This 3 day charity ride will take us on an adventure through Long Island, NY and will cover over 200 miles. And I can’t wait! Please support me in this cause and check my page regularly to see how our training is going.

How will your donation help?

$25 could fund YSC materials at three healthcare providers’ offices.
$100 could provide a Newly Diagnosed Navigator to six women when they need it most.
$250 could allow us to train four survivors to serve as a peer supporters.
$500 could fund a Young Empowered Survivor (YES) educational program.
$1,200 could pay for two young women to travel to the YSC Summit, an annual conference for young women affected by breast cancer and their co-survivors.

Thank you in advance for your support. I truly appreciate your generosity.
