Martha Tuff

I'm back!!!!

And I’m looking once again to raise money for a cause that is close to my heart. It is hard to come across someone these days who has not been affected by cancer to some extent. I set out last year to ride the 200+ mile Tour de Pink with my mother, a breast cancer survivor. Not 2 weeks before the ride, she suffered a serious bike accident. She did not waver and despite the fact that she was pretty banged up (quite literally: I think people were wondering if she had recently been in a bar fight!), she supported me through the entire ride, showing up at all the pit stops to cheer me on. Had I known she was walking around with a broken pelvis (multiple fractures at that), I likely would have insisted she stay home … but I’m pretty sure she would have found her way there anyway. I still get a pit in my stomach when I think about her doing her very best to keep up with me as we booked it from one event to the next – most of the time with her insisting on carrying all our bags (kidding)! She has finally been cleared to ride outside and is determined to do the ride this year. Up until recently she has been training on my brother's Peloton bike and she just may be in better shape than me!

While biking in the Tour de Pink last year, I met some amazing people, and in particular met a wonderful group from Newport/Jamestown. They have asked me and my mother to join their team. And there is some poetic justice to the switch of team. Last August, my family traveled to Africa to celebrate my Mom’s 70th birthday with her. Along the way, we all learned a tremendous amount about the beauty of the natural world and the awful terrors that poachers can inflict on those that inhabit it. So we will no longer be known as Bikers for Boobs, sadly, but we are very excited to now be a part of Team Ivory Ella. Ivory Ella is a company committed to doing everything they can to support our community and our world. Their mission is to live a life devoted to saving elephants and to helping others … including young woman with breast cancer!

For those of you who may have forgotten, or are new to my plea this year, the Tour de Pink is a challenging, three-day, 211-mile bike ride for breast cancer. I know I can do it with your help encouraging me and supporting me with a donation. That donation will go to support Young Survival Coalition and ensure that no young woman faces breast cancer alone. YSC is the premier organization providing supportive services and education resources for young women affected by breast cancer.

YSC Tour de Pink is much more than just a bike ride. It’s a chance to honor survivors, to raise awareness and to support important programs for young women affected by breast cancer. I hope I can count on you to help me reach my fundraising goal!

How will your donation help?

$25 could fund YSC materials at three healthcare providers’ offices.
$100 could provide a Newly Diagnosed Navigator to six women when they need it most.
$250 could allow us to train four survivors to serve as a peer supporters.
$500 could fund a Young Empowered Survivor (YES) educational program.
$1,200 could pay for two young women to travel to the YSC Summit, an annual conference for young women affected by breast cancer and their co-survivors.

Any amount helps! I am hoping to surpass what I raised last year, which was over $7500. Please help me get there!

As I train for this amazing ride I plan to update this page frequently along with my social media accounts so that all of my supporters can see my progress.

Thank you in advance for your support. I truly appreciate your generosity.

With love,
Martha Tuff
