Day 0: Friday, Sept 30, 2022Come in and get settled into the Ocean Place Resort and Spa. Friday is a time to explore the hotel, walk along the beach and meet up with friends. We'll have a more detailed schedule coming soon about rider registration and packet pickup.
Day 1: Saturday, Oct 1, 2022
Terrain: Combination of rolling hills and flat roads with some rolling hills inland
Distance & Elevation:
100 Miles: 3767’ total elevation
62 Miles: 2384’ total elevation
(And there’s always a shortcut)
We take off from Ocean Place Resort and Spa located in the shore town of Long Branch.
Long Branch started as a wealthy resort and beach town in the late1800s. Long Branch was visited often by presidents Chester A. Arthur, James A. Garfield, Ulysses S. Grant, Benjamin Harrison, Rutherford B. Hayes, William McKinley and Woodrow Wilson.
Seven Presidents Park was dedicated in their honor and monuments of the presidents are on the Boardwalk next to our hotel.
Traveling north along the coast, we cross the Navesink River at Highlands where you can see the Twin Lights Historic Site. A beacon was first built there in 1746 to warn of invading French warships.
We then ride through the tony neighborhood that is home to Jersey boy, Jon Bon Jovi.
Heading inland, we ride through scenic Monmouth County, known for its equestrian estates and Revolutionary War battlefields. We pass the Laird Distillery, America’s oldest Distillery, established in 1717.
TDP finishes Day 1 back at the hotel in Long Branch in time for socializing, dinner and the TDP evening program.
Day 2: Sunday, Oct 2, 2022
Distance & Elevation:
42 Miles: 407’ total elevation
We depart again from Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch and head north passing through Monmouth Beach and Sea Bright where we get onto the paved bike path and ride along the beach.
We take the bike path all the way to Sandy Hook- the Gateway National Recreation Center. Aside from its 6 miles of beaches, Sandy Hook is known for its Lighthouse, hiking and biking trails, birding, and Fort Hancock (a National Historic Landmark). Great spot for photos!
We loop around to Asbury Park and finish riding along the ocean to the Ocean Place Resort and Spa for finale festivities. The finale is the perfect ending to the weekend where we enjoy the company of our fellow riders, family, and friends!
